Performance Issues

Stuttering when tank arrives/Shooting at SI.

People are experiencing stuttering during gameplay while the tank is on the screen.

Audio Bug: Loss of Mic Volume Master Control.
SOLVED. Please use Possible Fix 1 if you have windows 7.

Changing mic volume in game also changes the mic volume in windows master volume.

Possible fix : In Windows go into the Control Panel then into the Sound options. Once you've got that window open, click on the Communications tab. From there change "Reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%" to "Do Nothing". Note : this comes standard in Windows 7 as set to : Reduce the volume of other sounds by 80% ". As I ( Yasutoko ) cannot find it in my Vista I can not confirm this if it's in Vista also. Thanks to : pressyre

Audio Bug: Microphone Looping.

Microphone becomes unmuted in windows volume control on map change. Only way to fix is to alt tab out and remute through windows master volume.

Possible fix :
"Go into your config file located in
"\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\cfg/config"
on XP (not sure about Win7 or Vista), open it and find the line that says
voice_mixer_mute "0"
and change that zero too a 1.

Performance drop for people with Multicore ATI GPUs/SLI Nvidia and 64Bit OS.

Every time the map changes, performance for people with multicore ATI GPUs/Nvidia SLI GPU's and 64-bit OS's drop to unplayable levels

Possible fix : Alt-tab out of game, then back in (original post)
Possible fix 2 : This one is for Nvidia users. If you are running driver 195.xx, try downgrading to 191.07 WHQL. Note this does not mean it will be fixed, but is a possible temporary fix. Thanks to Beowulf_ .

Rare bug : Audio Output decreases on map change.

The audio output for some people decreases automatically after a map changes to the next.
You have to manually go to your audio console and slide the slider up again for audio to be heard.

Possible Fix : None. If you know a possible fix, please let me know.

Errors and Crashes.

Microsoft Visual C++ Error.

At the end of the map and it's loading to another map, users would crash and get this error.

Possible fix : Lower your texture models to Normal or Low. Note, though this might not solve the issue all together.
Possible fix 2 : Update your Windows Vista.

Crash Without Error.

A lot of players are now getting a crash at random without an error message.

Possible fix : put -lv in your game runpath. Warning! This removes all the gore out of the game. Note, this does not solve the issue all together.
Possible fix 2 :
1. Close Steam if running
2. Go to your Steam\Steamapps folder
3. Delete left 4 dead 2 client.ncf
4. Delete client.dll from your steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\bin folder
5. Start Steam
6. Right click on L4D2 and validate the game
7. After validation is complete, right click on the game and choose Install
8. Let it redownload the file and install it properly

Game crashes after intro

For some players the game just crashes after the intro has stopped playing.
If they use a workaround to skip the intro, it crashes instantly.

Simply open up a new text document, paste the correct entries for your operating system and save it as "l4d2reg.reg" for example, then just run the .reg file. Observe that this is at your own risk. It's a reg fix floating around the web and while it have fixed the problem for some without creating any other problems I still recommend doing a backup of your registry before trying this. Engine Failing ( IVP .. )

So far a few people are experiencing this. It seems to be related to Versus and scavange play mode. When they switch sides. Also it seems that it isn't related only to Versus or Scavange, but also in Campaign

Couldn't CRC client side dll bin\client.dll

People would get this error while joining a server.

Possible Fix : 1)Navigate to
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\bin
2)Locate file : client.dll.old
3)Rename to : client.dll

Error instead of normal skins

People are seeing the word ERROR instead of regular skins on zombies/Weapons/Etc.

Possible fix : Try verifying your Game Cache.

Rare bug : Killing a witch crashes you to the desktop.

When you kill a witch, or your team kills the witch, you crash to your desktop.
The game still says you are in game and they have to vote to kick you for you to be able to rejoin.
There are no error messages when you crash.Also while verifying there seems to be files missing/corrupt if you're suffering from this issue.

Possible fix : Try verifying your Game Integrity. Note it may not work for all the people. Thanks to : Sveryn

Miscelaneous Bugs.

Carrying multiple melee weapons

Some people are experiencing a glitch that they drop their main weapon for a 2nd melee weapon.
Not sure if this has to be like that.

When changing team in Versus, the team will get stuck.

An odd occurance happens sometimes when a team switches sides, they get bumped into spectator mode, pressing M or using console to join a team does not work.
You have to reconnect to the server for you to be able to play again.

Dev. console not working in lobby.

Some people are experiencing a bug that the dev. console does not open in a lobby.
They have to back out off the lobby, enter the commands there and rehost the lobby.

Rare bug : On Swamp Fever map 1 at the ferry.

On Swamp Fever, Map 1, when getting thrown into the water when the ferry comes you sometimes don't die immediatly, but you are stuck under the water without movement and sight. Eventually you do die but this takes a while.

Possible fix : None, this is not fixable by us I think.

The game minimizes to the desktop.

The game sometimes automatically minimizes itself to the desktop.
Possible cause for this would the AVG 9

Possible fix : Uninstall and then download and install the full AVG9, that corrects the problem. Not confirmed yet.

Rare bug : When trying to crown the witch while sitting with incindiary ammo, she becomes invincible.

Trying to crown the witch with fire ammo makes her unkillable.

Possible fix : None. I don't think this is fixable by us.

Texture Glitch : Ventilation ducts on Hard Rain Map 5 are invisible

The ducts aren't visible at all on this map for some players.
Verifying the game cache does not solve this issue.

Possible fix : Change your graphics settings if you are playing on Low, to be more precise your effects setting. Thanks to Moorsoldaten.

Rare bug : When tank incap. you, the tank can get stuck in your body/incap. survivor can get stuck on your leg.

The survivor gets stuck onto your leg, on the tanks leg, or the tank gets stuck in your body.

Possible fix : None. Don't think this is fixable by us.

Boxes of death.

On Hard Rain, map 2, at the safehouse there are boxes near the table.
If you crouch jump at the right spot on the bit of invisible wall there, and wait a couple of seconds you die/get incapacitated.
I tried this myself and indeed it is true.

Possible fix : None. And I don't think we can solve this.

Glitches List

- Charger can hit you through the wall.
- Sometimes multiple smokers, up to 3 I've seen so far, are spawned at the same time.
- ( not sure if this is allowed in the terms of game ) But I thought it was said that Tanks would and could not spawn during panic moments?
We had one in our panic moment in Dead Center, Expert diff.
- In Scavange mode gas cans fall beneath cars, making them impossible to get. Link
- When you point to an ammo pile and choose the voice chat "Look", your character will say "Guns here" (or "weapons here") instead of saying "ammo here" like they should.
- Versus teams would lose their round if none on that team have loaded yet.
- This is a more logical Glitch, but, when you shoot off both arms of the CI, they're still able to climb up on things. If you think logically, when your arms are shot off, you can't really climb.
- In Dark Rain, when you go up on the elevator and a spitter would spit on it, the pool would form on top of the elevator but you would still receive dmg from this.
- Steam Stats acts up and sometimes add extra plays then you actually have done in real.
- When you switch teams in Versus you sometimes start in Spectator mode, you have to manually chose your team.
- Rare Glitch : On Dead Center, Map 1, when you go down in the elevator, you can fall through the bottom, spawning on top of the elevator again.
- Rare glitch : On Swamp Fever, Map 1, on versus if you're incappacitated on the ferry you sometimes don't die and Versus has to be rehosted.
- Hand gets stuck in the "pick up" position until the weapon is used or the player melees.
- The charger sometimes comes charging at you, and all of the sudden runs back from where he came, if he has a Survivor, he runs with them. Link
- When searching for games to play online it always returns 0 results no matter what I set the Filters to, I have to click "More search options" and use the selections there to find games. Link

- When you spin around when a jockey is riding you, you stay still and the jockey becomes useless.
