Modern WarFare 2

Postby EVIL » Sun Nov 29, 2009 5:17 am

Only tested on Windows 7 RC1 7100 64 Bit with server disconnect issue

ok this is way way unofficial......

Code: Select all
in beta as of 11-28-2009 to see if this will resolve having to maualy start PnkBstrB.exe from shortcut
Edit: not tested, start/run/regedit
HKEY_CERRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENTVERSION/RUN
right click in right panel  and select "new" string Value
right click "New Value #1"  set value data: Z:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\COD4\pb\PnkBstrB.exe
rename "New Value #1" to PnkBstrB

So I have followed every single tut out there on what everyone is recommending for the windows 7 64 bit punk buster fix. Some say it works some say it doesn't. here is what i followed but i added some non standard things that i will outline. I think for now until the powers that be fix this shit this is a fully functional work around, very simple very short. This does take a bit of patience so if you want a fast solution you are looking at the wrong site. This takes a bit to do and its 100% safe and within Microsoft Safe Practices.

First known issue: PnBstrB.exe doesn't start when PnkBstrA.exe does so PB kicks you from almost any PB enabled server.

Steps I have added to this:

MAKE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!

First things first, please read this post on the following links and get your self familiar with how the Windows 7 addition security mechanism that has been added to the windows 7 works, Yes windows 7 is a lot different than XP! (Note: its the same thing as server 2003) Once you understand how it works lets move forward and get this done so we can go kill some stuff.

These are some Very basic links on how to, please do not come to me with some attitude that I'm to blame for Microsoft making a complete change from what you are use to in windows XP (these features are standard from server 2003 and most professionals have been using them for the last 5 years, we are just trying to make this easy on everyone who visits, sorry for the rant. >>>Microsoft example of how to in server 2003, its the same principal as Windows 7:

You now need to take ownership of a few files:

Note: if you have done a "home" redirect, to a second drive or a network, please substitute drive letter for the location of your direct. I have not done this via network redirect but i am assuming that there will be NO different outcome.

C:\Users\{account-holder}\AppData\Local\PunkBuster
you need to own that dir. set your self as having full control

While you are in that location you should go ahead and get into the COD4 dir and find both PnkBstrA.exe & PnkBstrB.exe. Set the computability of those to vista and run as administrator. Right Click the PnkBstrB.exe and send a copy to your desk top.

Next: lets run over to Activision Folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare

I would move back up to the Program Files and do you Permissions change on the whole folder.

*Once this is done you should go into the folders and find the \iw3mp.exe and set to vista compatibility, DO NOT SET IT TO OPEN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

Ok this part is finished; you have set the PnkBstrA.exe, PnkBstrB.exe, Activision folder to have the proper permissions so it can run smoothly and you have a shortcut on your desktop to the PnkBstrB.exe file.

Now you need to go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools and find the Services link and make a short cut to your desktop. Almost done!

Final, you have set the core \iw3mp.exe to run as vista compatible and to not run as administrator, here is something I have found: if you move your shortcuts around or customize them in any way like sticking them on your start menu or task menu you will need to follow the same steps to the shortcut (s), right click it and set the compatibility to vista without running it as an administrator.

Check:

1. make sure all files above have had the proper ownership taken
2. shortcut of PnkBstrB.exe to desktop
3. shortcut of Services Link to desktop
4. Final check shortcuts and make sure they have the vista compatibilities without running as administrator.

Now! Open the Services link and find PnkBstrA, its running right? And PnkBstrB isn’t? Correct? Ok, to get this show moving and get you on to the game with out getting kicked you need to do the following:

Keep the Services link open, Start COD4 and minimize it, Remember the Shortcut to PnkBstrB.exe? Click that and look at the Services window and Restart PnkBstrA..........POOOOF PnkBstrB IS NOW THERE!

What does that mean? Well from what I understand, now PB can check you out and you wont be kicked.

For MOD servers, you need to follow the "click PnkBstrB shortcut & restart PnkBstrA tut from above" from time to time after you down load a new map, also u may need to go back to the Activision folder and retake ownership, and I said this is only once and a great while....i am hopping this isnt for every map change. i personaly have not had to do it, it just depends on if you followed my instructions.
